Lawrie’s Marina
Lawrie’s Marina, Circa 1980-1982 at Orana Street, Buddina.
Built in 1974 for Mr Keith Lawrie, the marina was built to be un-sinkable, using a buoyancy system where the floats beneath the concrete were filled with polystyrene foam.
After 12 months the marina, which covers 1.4 ha of water, opened with 20 berths, a main office, kiosk, shops, chandlery shop, fuelling facilities, showers, laundry and toilets.
More berths were gradually built until there were 130 altogether, some were sold individually and Mr Lawrie sold the marina in 1989.
