Tide Times

Surfing
Where you'll find the waves pumping

These great surfing locations border the waterfront precinct of Minyama Waters, Mooloolaba and Buddina:

Dead Man’s
Situated right in front of the Esplanade at Mooloolaba, Dead Man’s offers a ‘reef style’ break with good peaks left and right off the rocky bottom. Somewhat dicey at low tide, best surf is generated with an easterly to south easterly swell and wind and plenty of sand around the rock gutters for the break to work. Can be truly epic and cyclonic conditions have produced some memorable surf.

Cheese Factory
Further into the bay, the Cheese Factory is located by the yellow building just off Parkyn Drive appropriately shaped like a block of cheese!

Not for the faint hearted, in peak or intense conditions this spot provides unbelievably sucky lefts and rights with broken boards (and bodies) a regular occurrence. Excessively protected by Point Cartwright from most swells and rare for quantity and quality, the Cheese Factory can still be a really fun wave when tide, wind and swell combine perfectly, generally during strong southerly conditions.

Carties
Sheltered by the picturesque Point Cartwright, carties offers an excellent right during southerly wind/swell conditions. Quickest access is from the car park at La Balsa Park, or a pleasant walk down the hill from the headland. Care should be taken with the groyne wall both when flicking off and launching as there is a lot of undercurrent. Only experienced surfers should attempt this break. Marine life abounds, particularly as the trawlers access the safe waters of the Mooloolah River anchorage at this point.

Secrets
Always known as Secrets, however hardly a secret for years, this is the spot at the inside of the rocks at the tip of Point Cartwright. Rarely surfed by the ‘stand ups’ except in large groundswell conditions (which usually is better elsewhere) body boarders seem to risk life and limb on the occasional basis.

The Pocket
Better value can be experienced at The Pocket which is on the southerly side of Point Cartwright and one of the few workable locales during the post winter northerly season. The Pocket is renowned for holding larger swell and can attract substantial crowds although definitely for the more experienced during peak swell times.

The White House
Crossroads
Kawana

The White House, Crossroads and Kawana are typical beach breaks along this stretch which cope quite well with larger swells. Good in most conditions except during strong southerly winds and an excellent value fun surf during the winter months.
